It’s data week! We are presenting our latest and not-so-latest colleagues from our Azure Data field.
The first one on the spotlight is Markus Lehtola, our newest crew member! Markus has nearly 10 years of experience working in fields of analytics, data, and business intelligence. Currently he works as data architect, helping to deliver data solutions on top of Azure. Let’s hear more about Markus by his own words.
🌍 Where do you come from?
I come from the happiest country in the world, but more precisely, from Helsinki. I side-tracked to Espoo for 10 years but last year I moved back to my roots. In reality, I’m not a city person and I rather spend my free time in the wilderness and especially in Lapland.
Professionally my background is in energy technology, and logically I haven’t worked at all in the energy business. I have worked pretty much all of my career in data and analytics-related roles and so far I have no regrets. Each day and year I get to learn lots of new things as Azure and data service evolve constantly.
🚎 What parts does your workday usually consist of?
I’m not much of a remote worker anymore so I start my day by hopping onto a bus to Zure office at Makkaratalo. From there I can watch the railway station and the surroundings. But in reality, my days vary a lot, mostly I work with client projects or work on new sales cases to generate more work for the future.
👃 Random fact about you 1.0
I don’t have the sense of smell, as I lost it in an accident more than five years ago. That made it difficult for me to know if I had Covid as one of the most common symptoms (before Omicron at least) was the loss of smell.
🤷 Random fact about you 2.0
According to Google, if I were a fruit, I would be an apple. Whatever that means 🤔
🕺 What has been your favorite thing about Zure?
There are so many things that I could write here. Starting with great colleagues who are extremely skilled and nice to great office location. Also starting from little things, the ability to choose your working gear to suit your way of working and openness in communication at Zure is great.
🦹♂️ Who should join Zure?
Anyone who values great colleagues, constant learning, and working on challenging projects. You won’t regret it, the recruitment process is laid back and more a conversation to find you whether you are a match to Zure and vice versa.
📊 What’s your favourite data?
It’s probably not data but more of a paradox. You can’t accurately measure the length of the coastline of any landmass. Whether it’s a small island or continent this is true and it’s called the “Coastline paradox”. Usually, more accurate measurement leads to more accurate results. But with coastlines, more accuracy just adds more length to the measurement. And if you down to accuracy to the molecular level you start approaching infinite length for the coastline. Google it if you don’t believe that.
