TELL US SHORTLY ABOUT YOURSELF
I am from Ostrobothnia and moved to Helsinki to study. I am a developer and user experience specialist. I want to make the world a better place, one way to do it, is by developing user-friendly and enjoyable applications.
WHAT HAVE YOU STUDIED?
I studied computer science at the University of Helsinki. In my thesis I studied if the happiness of users affect how user-friendly they think an app is. Do happy people also look at software through rose-tinted glasses? The results gave some weak indications that this is possible, but verifying this would require more research.
WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN IT/CODING?
I guess it has to do with solving problems and building. How you find a good solution to a problem and see your own work in systems that help people in their daily work. Modern software development is teamwork; working together and reaching goals is rewarding.
WHAT ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS IN THE IT INDUSTRY?
An interesting change that has already begun and will continue for some time is the users’ demographics change. Young people using computers and mobile phones as a natural part of their life are entering the workforce and therefore become subscribers and users of systems that support the business. These users expect systems in their work that are as user-friendly as what they are used to in their spare time: “Why doesn’t it work on the mobile?” “This search should work as it does on Google”.
HOBBIES
At the moment I spend a lot of time with my family, but taking the bike to work has been a good way to get some exercise during the week. Sports in every form has always been fun, especially ball games. Jogging is another good and easy way of exercising, but even more fun is orienteering. Participating in the “iltarastit” competitions I spend a few hours in the woods without even noticing I have been running all the time as I have to check where I am and where I am going.
WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR A JOB AT KOMPOZURE?
At my previous job we developed the company’s own product which over the years had become quite familiar, so it was time to look for new challenges. Kompozure offered developing different systems to different sectors and that sounded interesting to me. As I had been working a lot with web applications, it sounded interesting to try cloud- and mobile development. At my interview Sakari, who was interviewing me, told me about the vision of a company with skilled and motivated people, a good way of doing things and a supportive atmosphere. This sounded very much like a company I could work for, so the choice was clear.
WHAT’S THE BEST IN KOMPOZURE?
Do I have to choose only one thing? Foosball table, co-workers… Maybe it’s the work in itself, the fact that we are on the front edge of development. We carry out interesting and varying projects using modern agile processes, the latest tools on the newest platforms. I guess you can’t find many companies like this in Finland.
