At Zure, we’ve actively come up with different ways to enforce the connection between employees. Our monthly Zhallenge is one example of our aim to strengthen the bond between employees and a testament to the playful spirit that thrives within our company culture.
Every month, Zureans eagerly anticipate the release of a new set of challenges that are anything but work-related. These activities are designed to spark joy, creativity, and a sense of adventure, no matter where in the world, at home or the office, our team members find themselves. Participation is always entirely voluntary, making every submission a genuine display of our zest for engaging, joyous activities and events.
Remote work can often feel isolating, but we actively try to bridge the distance. The Zhallenges are not just games; they are a means to foster a stronger community among all Zureans. They encourage us to step out of our daily routines and share moments of laughter and triumph.
Every Zureday, a monthly internal event for the whole company, a fresh trio of challenges is unveiled, spanning categories that cater to all tastes and talents. Whether it’s the thrill of the outdoors, the allure of cultural exploration, or the sheer randomness of quirky activities, there’s something for everyone. Zureans have risen to the occasion each month, tackling Zhallenges and capturing their achievements in photos to share with everyone. Each completed task earns you a point and takes you a step closer to prizes awarded biannually.
From camping in backyards to taking selfies with animals and making homemade bread, the creativity displayed in these Zhallenges has been inspiring. Although my dog Bones was a very eager volunteer for my selfie with an animal, one’s own pet didn’t cut it. Neither did humans whether you think your partner resembles a monkey or not.
While we do keep score, the real victory lies in the shared experiences and stories that come out of each Zhallenge.
Recent Zhallenges have seen Zureans meditating, crafting Zure-themed haiku, and even building paper planes in pursuit of those coveted points. Last month, one of our employees clinched an extra score with a paper plane that not only had wings (unlike some other versions) but also came with video evidence and precise measurements — a true testament to the meticulousness we bring to every Zhallenge.
Sami Ovaska currently reigns supreme in the leaderboard:
“From the very first Zhallenge, the thrill of competition has been palpable. It’s brought a wave of enthusiasm into my home as well, with my family eagerly joining in and encouraging me in each Zhallenge.
One of the most memorable Zhallenges was ice swimming on a frigid -33-degree winter day in Levi. Initially, I was apprehensive, but it turned out to be an invigorating experience that wasn’t as daunting as I feared.
The diversity of the Zhallenges has pushed me to explore new horizons, like reading books I would never have picked up otherwise. Although the handstand Zhallenge bested me due to a shoulder giving out, preventing me from capturing the moment, it’s these experiences that stay with you. The triumphs and the defeats that leave you hungry for next month.
The friendly banter and light-hearted rivalry in the corridors have fostered a vibrant culture. On a personal level, the Zhallenges have inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace activities I would never have considered before.”
This month’s Zhallenge includes a test of endurance with a 168km run, walk, or cycle, a literary quest with a character name-sharing requirement, and the wholesome art of baking bread.
The Zhallenge is more than a game; it’s where work meets play, where all of us showcase our individuality, and where we all come together.
